I’m a big fan of cake. Not a particularly thrilling revelation given that most people are big fans of cake but it seemed like a suitable opening line for a review of a cake!
This cake however wasn’t really intended for me – but for my lovely wife who is also a big fan of cake! It was designed originally as a Valentine’s Day surprise but as it arrived a couple of days ago there was no chance of it surviving uneaten for 2 weeks (even though it’s actually designed to stay fresh for 14 days!). Just to confirm it did arrive through the letterbox perfectly in tact due to its quality metal tin and was a really nice surprise for my other half as I hadn’t told her it was coming!
bakerdays have been making personalised cakes for a long, long time but their 5″ Letterbox cakes are still a fairly new concept. They are designed (obvs) to fit through your letterbox so can be ordered as a nice, quick surprise for someone special that you may not otherwise be able to give a cake to in person. Starting at £14.99 it’s not going to break the bank either!
I went for a lovely owl design (as we like owls) personalised with our names. Behold…
It’s not a massive cake by any means because of the whole letterbox thing, but you get 4 decent slices out of it. You can order in a variety of different flavours including chocolate sponge, vanilla sponge, gluten free and dairy free – I went for the lovely Red Velvet and can confirm it was very tasty, although a bit of buttercream in the middle would have been even nicer. Given the size you could also probably eat the whole thing in one sitting without feeling toooooooo guilty!
If you fancy ordering a cake that fits through a letterbox (good for surprises!) it’s a pretty awesome idea. Pop along to the bakerdays website for all the details on this and many other lovely cakes which can be personalised with text and photos.
